The Graston Technique®

Research conducted by Graston Technique trained clinicians at Ball Memorial Hospital and Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, found that the controlled micro trauma induced through the Graston Technique protocol, increased the amount of fibroblasts to the treated area.
That amount of inflammation to the scar tissue helps initiate the healing cascade. The structure of the tissue is rearranged, and damaged tissue is replaced by new tissue. Ice is then applied to reduce the pain and exercise is implemented to increase function and range of motion.

Other clinical studies continue to document the success of the Graston Technique, generally achieving better outcomes when compared to traditional therapies, and resolving injuries that have failed to respond to other therapies.

Our Services

Chiropractic Adjustment
Chiropractic adjustments help eliminate interference that prevents your body from healing itself. Misaligned vertebrae interfere with your nervous system, which affects organs and muscles throughout your body. Your chiropractor treats the underlying problem, which can alleviate painful symptoms and more importantly, helps the body function properly and heal itself.

The intent of an adjustment is to restore normal motion and function of the framework in order to restore the normal function of the nerves. Chiropractors use several adjusting techniques to accomplish this, many characterized by a precise, specific thrust. Adjusting is done to mobilize a joint, relieve nerve dysfunction and remove subluxations.

The technique of chiropractic adjusting is a manual art requiring considerable knowledge and dexterity. Mastery of the art of adjusting takes extensive training and practice. Our doctors are specifically trained to provide gentle yet effective adjustments for all of the joints of the body.

Spinal Decompression Therapy
Do you suffer from degenerative disc disease, herniated or bulging disc syndrome, sciatica or addition spinal problems?  Has surgery been suggested or recommended to you?  As an alternative, consider Spinal Decompression Therapy.  Spinal decompression therapy has proven effective in treating degenerative disc disease, facet syndrome, sciatica, herniated discs and spinal stenosis.  Spinal decompression therapy can also be considered if you suffer from failed back surgery syndrome.

Spinal discs do not receive oxygen and fresh blood consistently.  Decompression and motion of the spine can enhance healing by restoring the much needed nutrients back into the discs and surrounding soft tissue.  During therapy you will go through phases of spinal distraction and relaxation.  Once the problem spinal disc is isolated it can then be placed under pressure which creates a vacuum effect.  The vacuum does two things – first any portion of the disc that has herniated or protruded will return to where it should be.  Second the vacuum effect brings in a fresh blood supply which promotes healing and restoration of health to the spinal segment.

Spinal decompression therapy typically takes 10-20 minutes to perform.  Most patients find pain relief within a few sessions.  However to achieve maximum and long-lasting relief commitment to the entire recommended treatment program by your doctor is necessary.  For those who are candidates and follow the recommended guidelines, spinal decompression has proven to be highly effective.

Exercise Rehabilitation
Postural and corrective exercises are the key to making long term corrective changes to the way your body functions, feels and performs. Without this process, you are probably only getting temporary relief from your chiropractic care or massage therapy. Without some form of physical rehab, recovery from an injury or long-term spinal problem can take longer to achieve.

The combined effectiveness of chiropractic, physiotherapy and exercise rehabilitation can help improve motion, increase muscle strength, enhance coordination and balance. Our doctors have had years of education and experience in sports medicine, athletic training and exercise prescription.

Physiotherapy
Consists of many different types of treatment including: ice, electric stimulation, ultrasound, heat, diathermy and neuro-muscle re-education. Physiotherapy treatments are very effective in reducing the amount of swelling, inflammation, muscle spasms, muscle adhesions, trigger points and edema that is usually associated with and complicated most musculoskeletal complaints.

Massage Therapy
The benefits of massage include increased circulation and flexibility. Massage increases the lubrication between muscle fibers and allows the muscle to move optimally. Muscle fibers are designed to work independently of each other.

When muscles dry out or dehydrate, the fibers stick together and the muscle become stiff or ridged.

As fluid is reintroduced via massage therapy, the muscle softens and regains its flexibility. As circulation increases between the muscle fibers, nutrients reach the cells and toxins are carried off more efficiently.

Aging is largely a process of dehydration. The less water in the body, the more quickly we age. As we dehydrate, we begin to shrink and as our muscles become smaller, our skin begins to wrinkle. Drinking the right amount of water each day and regular massage therapy is a great way to prevent and reduce signs of aging!

Degenerative diseases like cancer and muscular sclerosis are anaerobic and cannot live in an oxygenated environment. Because blood carries oxygen to the cells, circulation is necessary for optimal health. Massage increases circulation, hence increases oxygen to the cells. This physiological process of massage therapy allows the body to prevent and fight off disease and sickness as well as heal naturally.

Flexibility Training
When patients suffer muscle injury, the muscle tends to tighten causing pain and affecting other tissues. Stretching may ease that pain and prevent tightened muscles from adversely affecting other tissues.

In cases involving chronic joint pain due to old injuries, degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis) or deconditioning, stretching may help the patient regain motion and function with less pain. Your Doctor or therapist stretches the muscles that are limiting range of motion in the same way the athletic trainer working with the top superstars of sport today would stretch them.

 Kinesio-Taping

The Kinesio® Taping Method is applied over muscles toreduce pain and inflammation, relax overused or tired muscles, and support muscles in movement on a 24-hour-a-day basis. It is not a restrictive type of taping and allows for full range of motion. In contrast, traditional sports or athletic taping is wrapped around a joint strictly for stabilization and support during an athletic event.

Kinesio® Tex Tape is used to treat anything from headaches to foot problems and everything in-between. Examples include rehabilitation from sports injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, lower back strain/pain (subluxation, herniated disc), knee and shoulder conditions, and many more. The taping method requires a tape that is patient and skin-friendly, possesses optimum elastic qualities, is the same thickness as the skin, and is durable enough to stay on for multiple days, even through sweating and showers.

Graston Technique®
The Graston Technique, originally developed by athletes, is changing the way clinicians, including athletic trainers, chiropractors, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and patients view treatment of acute and chronic soft tissue injuries.
The Graston Technique is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. This technique utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation.

Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging
X-ray, or radiography, refers to procedures that use standard x-rays to view parts of the body. A very low dose of radiation is used, which make x-rays extremely safe diagnostic tests. X-ray is a simple, painless procedure that enables the doctor to analyze the bony and soft tissue anatomy for diagnosis.

X-rays are a form of radiant energy, like light or radio waves. Unlike light, x-rays can penetrate the body, which allows pictures of internal structures to be produced. X-ray examinations provide valuable information about your health and play an important role in helping your doctor make an accurate diagnosis.

As with other medical procedures, x-rays are safe when used with care. Chiropractors have been trained to use the minimum amount of radiation necessary to obtain the needed results. The amount of radiation used in most examinations is very small and the benefits greatly outweigh the risk of harm.

Nerve Conduction Velocity Testing
NCV testing measures the speed of conduction of impulses through a nerve. This test is used to diagnose nerve damage and dysfunction. This test can help determine if there is nerve damage, the extent of the damage and if nerves have been destroyed.

Electromyography (EMG) is often performed along with a NCV study which measures your muscles and nerve electrical activity. These tests are used to determine if a person's muscle weakness is nerve damage or some other muscle condition.

Nutrition
Chiropractors who include clinical nutrition or nutrition therapy/services in their practice start out by assessing the patient's case history through a comprehensive physical examination including a state of the art antioxidant screening device and a review of his/her current diet and lifestyle. Chiropractors advise their patient to include nutrition as part of an overall wellness package. Your doctor has had extensive training in nutritional sciences because the chiropractic profession looks at the whole person and not just the symptom.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the gentle insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body. This process stimulates movement of energy within the body, allowing natural healing to take place. These points are selected based on years of training acupuncturists receive based on over 5,000 years of experience in China.  Acupuncture points are the specific points on the meridians where the Qi is both concentrated and accessible, the goal being to restore the proper flow of Qi.  As the body regains its natural balance, well-being returns.
